Outdoor Team Building -
Sand Castle WARs! (only at beaches)
If you think that building sand castles is child's play, this team activity will cause you to change your mind. Using specially imported sand castle moulds (for non-professional sand sculptors to build professional looking sand castles), participants will be taught on the tips and tricks of using these moulds to create almost world class sand castles.
The briefing and demonstration by out staff will set the standard for quality of the sand castles to be created by participants. We will guide them on a step-by-step manner on how to use the different tools in the sand castle kit to build the different sections of the castle. Extremely talented and determined participants will be aim to surpass the basic requirements set by us.
The judging criteria will be made known to the participants before hand. Some of the usual ones used are creativity, complexity of the sand castle designs, artwork and team effort.
Sand Castle WARs! is ideal for participants who do not mind being out in the sun for at least an hour (as it is not always possible to find shady areas near the beach). Each team will also need some of its members to shove sand and others to carry water from the sea (because dry sand does not stick together).
A master design plan is usually sketched out by each team and coordination will be required for the team to build a castle of reasonable size. Participants will also need to work with one another to make use of certain tools in the sand castle set (as it requires more than 2 hands to operate those tools).
Participants who are more artistically inclined will also need to teach some of their team mates so that they are able to finish their project in time.
Learing Values:
Sand Castle WARs will inevitably require participants to get down on the beach and get their hands and feet dirty (with sand), this game will bring out people who are consistent with the simple but tideous tasks, as well as people who are artistically inclined.
In this team activity where beauty seems to be the key for winning, substance is actually also important as sand structures need to be built one step at a time. They will need to be made damp with the appropriate amount of water, then religiously compressed one layer at a time into the cast for the structure to be properly moulded. Taking short cuts will cause the structures to collaspe.
Among others, one of the key messages of sandcastle wars is perserverence. In life, the battles do not always go to the swift and mighty. Often, the battle is won and lost based on efforts we put in daily and our attitude.
Sand Castle WARs! can also be used to share about values like humility, building relationships with colleagues and team work.
Required Logistics
Beach (some shade will be nice)
